Marshall Medical Center is the proud owner of the “Newest Shining Star Award” for achieving excellence as advocates for organ donation and thereby helping to save countless lives. The award was presented at the Hospital Walk of Fame event hosted by Golden State Donor Services.

As a result of Marshall Medical Center’s efforts to identify ways to bridge the gap between loss of life and the gift of life, Golden State Donor Services recognized the Marshall Medical Center as a "Newest Shining Star” in recognition of outstanding support and dedication to saving lives. As Helen Nelson, the Executive Director for Golden State Donor Services put it, “Marshall Medical Center now has systems in place for referral and they have gone above and beyond to make sure the donations are possible. They do an amazing job. They have opened their arms to Golden State Donor Services and welcomed them as a team member – and provided excellent care.”

The hospital awards event is held annually and recognizes individuals, departments and hospitals who champion the cause of organ donation and work to ensure every donor is referred. “I’m so proud of our efforts to work with patients and families to offer organ donation as an option,” said Marshall Assistant Administrator Shannon Truesdell. “I also can’t commend enough the cooperation between our staff and the staff at Golden State to facilitate this process. Organ donation gives families the opportunity to have the legacy of a loved ones go on by saving lives and giving sight.”

Currently, there are more than 93,000 people waiting for a life-saving transplant in the United States.
