Marshall
Medical Breaks Ground on New Surgery Center in Cameron Park

Cameron Park, CA
– On March 17, 2003, Marshall Medical CEO and administrator James
Whipple used a ceremonial shovel to officially break ground for Marshall's
new outpatient surgery center in Cameron Park. Also present where Shannon Truesdell -assistant administrator,
Kathy Krejci -surgery coordinator, and Mark Funston - construction manager. The
$7.5 million facility, a partnership between Marshall and
a local physician’s group, will be prominently located at the corner of
Palmer Drive and Gabbert Street in Cameron Park. The surgery center will offer direct connections to existing
diagnostic, primary care and specialty care services available at the
Marshall Medical Cameron Park Campus. Shannon Truesdell, assistant administrator at Marshall, says that
access to expert care is the main benefit of the surgery center.
“The new
ambulatory surgery center allows essentially well patients to have surgery
in an outpatient environment, which means that patients can go home right
after surgery and recover in the comfort of their own home,” said
Truesdell.
“Patients will
also have easy access to their physicians and surgeons because physician
offices will be located on the second floor. Our goal with the new surgery center, through the enhancement of
services at the Cameron Park Campus, is to make access to expert medical
care easier for families.”
Another added
benefit of the new surgery center will be a reduction in wait times in
Marshall Hospital’s emergency room.
“Once
the surgery center is complete, we will move almost all outpatient surgery
to the Cameron Park Campus,” said Marshall administrator James Whipple.
“This
move will make room for the expansion of the emergency room and the
inpatient surgery department. This expansion is part of a five year plan to meet the medical needs of the
growing communities in Cameron Park, Shingle Springs and El Dorado Hills.”
Mark Funston,
construction manager for Marshall Medical, expects the new facility to be
completed by spring 2004. The project planning team for the surgery center includes several Marshall
Medical clinical experts, local architects Murray & Downs, local general
contractor Carter-Kelly Inc., along with J&J Consultants and Boulder
& Associates out of Colorado. The total cost of construction is $7.5 million with another $2
million set aside for purchasing state-of-the-art medical equipment.
