Medical’s Diabetes Education Receives ADA Certification
Marshall
Medical’s Diabetes Self-Management Education Program has received
certification from the American Diabetes Association (ADA), the nation’s
leading nonprofit health organization for diabetes research and
education. Currently,
this program is the only ADA certified Diabetes Education Program in El
Dorado County and one of just a few in the Sacramento area.
Those with Medicare may now participate in Marshall’s Diabetes
Self-Management Education (DSME) Program with the knowledge that it is a
covered benefit through Medicare.
“Marshall
Medical has always been committed to providing quality diabetes education
and strives to meet the needs of all our patients,” said program
coordinator and Certified Diabetes Educator Lisa Hartley, BS, RN.
“Achieving American Diabetes Association (ADA) Program
Recognition and Certification is very exciting for us.
Many more people will now be able to participate in our Diabetes
Self-Management Education (DSME) program, including Medicare
beneficiaries.”
Marshall’s
program has met the ADA’s 10 National
Standards that define quality programs and help improve healthcare
outcomes. Marshall
Medical’s Diabetes Education Program is committed to providing quality
education and promoting an ongoing effort to meet the needs and
expectations of its patients.
“The
ADA recognition will expand access to Marshall's Diabetes Education
Program. It will provide
patients with diabetes and their physicians another valuable resource to
assist with the management of their diabetes,” said Marshall Center for
Primary Care physician Adam Williams, MD, the medical advisor for the
program. Marshall’s
Diabetes Workshop class series offers a comprehensive overview of diabetes
and it’s treatment. The
four class series is offered in the
mornings, afternoons, evenings and Saturdays. Individual sessions with
Marshall’s Registered Nurse-Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) or
Registered Dietitian may be scheduled Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
