About Christopher Kurnik

Christopher Kurnik, MD joined Marshall’s Orthopedics and Sports Medicine practice in the fall of 2023. His interests lie in surgical pathology including shoulder instability, shoulder arthroplasty, knee cartilage restoration, knee ligament instability and arthroscopy of the knee. Dr. Kurnik’s fellowship training in hip arthroscopy brings a much-needed capability to our community.

A Reno native, Dr. Kurnik completed his undergraduate work with twin Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology and Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Nevada, Reno where he graduated summa cum laude. He attended UNR’s Reno School of Medicine before completing his orthopedic residency and sports medicine fellowship at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. Dr. Kurnik graduated medical school with Alpha Omega Alpha distinction and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.

Dr. Kurnik has participated in medical missions in Uganda’s remote northern Gulu District and Belin, Iquitos, Peru. During the missions, he provided primary care and assisted with emergency room coverage, caring for rural populations of local and displaced patients in remote areas. Closer to home, Dr. Kurnik has also devoted time to working with underserved populations in his hometown of Reno.

Dr. Kurnik is passionate about getting patients back to the hobbies and work they love. An avid outdoorsman, for him those hobbies include skiing, mountain biking, upland and archery hunting, trail running and fly fishing.
