During
your stay, you will be seen by physicians on our staff who are
experts in the care of patients here at Marshall Hospital. These
physicians, all board-certified specialists in Internal Medicine,
are known as Hospitalists.
We
are excited to offer this relatively new specialty, as it improves
the quality of hospital care, while making hospital stays more
pleasant for patients and their families.
Expert care is never more than a few minutes away from your
bedside.
BACK
TO TOP
Unlike
most physicians, who are office-based, our Hospitalists are
full-time in the hospital, focusing solely on patients in the
hospital. This additional time and attention can make all the
difference.
Our
team of Hospitalists is here to assist you through a smooth, quick
recovery by following up on tests, adjusting your treatment needs
and managing and coordinating all aspects of your care.
At
all times, your regular physician is kept informed of your progress
and, when your stay is complete, the Hospitalist carefully hands
your care back to your regular physician.

and specialty physicians are there when you need them.

occupational therapist are all coordinated by your Hospitalist.
- Comprehensive management of your case
During your entire stay, a nurse Case Manager will be assigned
to you: to watch over your care, to explain your options, and to
help you make the best decisions.
- Go home sooner
Patients can be discharged when they are ready, since a member
of the Hospitalist Team is always available to handle the
discharge procedure.
Why
doesn’t my regular physician take care of me while I’m in the
hospital?
Your
regular physician is part of the team overseeing your care, however
the Hospitalist Team is at the hospital full-time. They are more
readily available to you and are also frequently consulting with
your regular physician, who may visit you before or after their
office hours.
Who
will see me for an urgent office visit while my regular physician is
acting as Hospitalist?
Your
regular physician’s partners will provide both routine and urgent
care. If they should need to consult your regular physician, that is
always possible.
How
will my regular physician know what has happened to me during my
hospitalization?
Your
regular physician is alerted when you are admitted to the hospital,
and throughout your stay there is close communication between your
physician and the Hospitalist. When you are released from the
hospital, your physician will receive a summary of the hospital
stay, including discharge diagnosis, medications ordered, and
recommended follow-up visits.
How
do I reach my Hospitalist during my stay?
Ask
your nurse. They can find the Hospitalist for you.
