Marshall Medical Center Awarded Accreditation from Joint Commission

By demonstrating compliance with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations’ national standards for healthcare quality and safety, Marshall Medical Center has earned the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™.  Marshall Medical includes Marshall Hospital in Placerville and outpatient services and clinics in El Dorado Hills, Cameron Park and Georgetown.

Founded in 1951, the Joint Commission is dedicated to continuously improving the safety and quality of the nation's healthcare through voluntary accreditation. The Joint Commission's on-site survey of Marshall occurred in February.

“We sought accreditation for our organization because we want to demonstrate our commitment to patient safety and quality care," says James Whipple, Marshall administrator and CEO.  "We view obtaining Joint Commission accreditation as another step toward achieving excellence."

"Above all, the national standards are intended to stimulate continuous, systematic and organization-wide improvement in an organization's performance and the outcomes of care," says Kurt Patton, executive director, Hospital Accreditation Program, Joint Commission.

"The community should be proud that Marshall is focusing on the most challenging goal - to continuously raise quality and safety to higher levels." The award of accreditation is for a three-year period, ending in 2008.

“The staff at Marshall appreciate the educational aspect of the survey and the opportunity to interact with the team of surveyors,” said Whipple.  “The accreditation is proof of an organization-wide commitment to provide quality care on an ongoing basis.

"The Joint Commission seeks to continuously improve the safety and quality of care provided to the public through the provision of healthcare accreditation.  The Joint Commission evaluates and accredits more than 15,000 healthcare organizations and programs in the United States, including 7,800 hospitals.  An independent, not-for-profit organization, the Joint Commission is the nation's oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in healthcare.
