Richard Detwiler, MD is an experienced general surgeon providing a comprehensive
range of surgical care for both planned and emergent surgery needs, including
endoscopic and laparoscopic procedures, surgical treatment of malignancies,
sclerotherapy, vascular surgeries and specialty procedures of Chrohn’s disease,
ulcerative colitis and other conditions. He has been closely affiliated
with Marshall Medical Center since moving to the area in 1989. In 2012,
Dr. Detwiler joined Marshall Medical Center to help form Marshall General Surgery.
Dr. Detwiler earned his undergraduate and doctor of medicine degrees from
Loma Linda University, and then completed his surgery residency at White
Memorial Medical Center in Los Angeles. Before moving to El Dorado County
in 1989, he served as Chief of Surgery at Granada Hills Community Hospital
and also worked in two trauma centers in Southern California.
Since joining Marshall, Dr. Detwiler has served in a number of capacities,
including Chief of Surgery and Chief of Staff. He is Board Certified by
the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College
