Craig Thayer, MD is an experienced general surgeon, having provided routine
and life-saving surgical procedures for the community for over 20 years.
Dr. Thayer provides a wide range of surgical care for both planned and
emergent surgery needs, including breast disease and breast cancer, traumatic
injury, surgical treatment of malignancies, endoscopic and laparoscopic
procedures. He is the only surgeon in the group performing vascular and
thoracic surgery. He has been closely affiliated with Marshall Medical
Center since 1992. In 2012, Dr. Thayer joined with Marshall and two other
experienced surgeons to form Marshall General Surgery.
Dr. Thayer earned his Bachelor degree in Biochemistry from UC Davis and
went on to obtain his medical degree from the same school. He then completed
specialized training and residency as a surgeon. He was the Chief Resident
at UC Davis Medical Center prior to establishing his practice in Placerville
in 1992. He has served in many key roles at Marshall, and has been its
Trauma Director since 2000. He is the hospitals American College of Surgeons
verified trauma center's Medical Director and developed the program
at Marshall with help from staff. He is Board Certified by the American
Board of Surgery.
Dr. Thayer is passionate about helping the less fortunate and regularly
participates in medical mission trips to locations such as Honduras and Haiti.
