About Philip Abela

Philip Abela, MD, has provided care in El Dorado County for over 20 years. A San Francisco native, Dr. Abela earned his undergraduate degree in biology from UC Berkeley and his medical degree from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Okla. He completed his internship and residency in family medicine at the University of Oklahoma’s Tulsa Medical College. Before joining Marshall, Dr. Abela spent most of his career in private practice.

Dr. Abela is board certified in family medicine. He brings a philosophy of care combining integrity, quality and compassion. He also lends his expertise to volunteer endeavors, including past work in India, local community service, and in Mississippi following the historic 2005 hurricane season.

Away from work, Dr. Abela enjoys many outdoor activities like horseback riding, hiking, and basketball. He pursues creative efforts like writing, producing and directing plays, in addition to songwriting and playing classical guitar.
