Karen Good, has over 27 years of fund development and senior leadership experience in not-for-profit organizations. Her expertise includes major gifts, strategic planning, capital campaigns, board and staff development, and collaborative projects. Karen combines the perspective of a senior executive with the insight of an experienced philanthropy leader and the objectivity of a seasoned consultant.
As the current Executive Director of Marshall Foundation for Community Health for the past 15 years, Karen raised fund balances from $1.5 million to nearly $4 million and has directed 5 major fundraising campaigns, including a successful $4 million capital campaign for emergency services, and nearly $1.7 million for new Cancer Services in an ongoing current campaign. With a passion for creating legacy gifts through endowments and planned gifts, she focuses on listening to the dreams and desires of her donor’s heart. For eight years Karen cultivated a seven-figure planned gift resulting in the largest gift made in the hospital’s history, including property for Marshall Medical Center’s future growth.
Karen encourages the Foundation Board of Trustees and staff to increase their knowledge of ethical standards and best practices as well as spearheading programs that develop board-member leadership skills.

Karen created 12 “new” programs at Marshall Foundation that expanded health services to patients and the community, some of which included: Strength for the Journey, surviving sudden loss - grief support; Honor-A-Nurse program raising nursing scholarship funds; iWalk to School El Dorado County - healthy lifestyles for children; Ovarian Cancer Coalition; Check ‘Em Testicular Cancer program; free respiratory home care program; a free mammogram program; and the new Images of Hope program that supports art therapy for cancer patients and their family members.
In the community, Karen created The Nonprofit Partnership, a collaboration of 12 health-related nonprofits; local education for fundraising leaders through the Association of Fundraising Professionals; and the Employees for a Healthier Community campaign program utilized by The County of El Dorado Employees.
New ER and OB Wing at Marshall Medical, Placerville:
Successfully concluded a $4 million capital campaign to build a new emergency department and bring a much-needed OB services to Marshall Medical Center through 100% participation from both hospital and foundation boards. Exceeded fundraising expectations for employee giving raising $680,000 as well as physician giving at the $670,000 level.
Trustee participation has grown under Karen’s leadership and shifted from not only being event sponsors, but included major/legacy gifts as well. She created orientation programs for Trustees and developed a systematic process for prospective trustees interested in volunteer service with their community hospital.
Built physician relationships that facilitated medical staff partnerships in solicitations as well as increasing physician giving.
Expertise in creating both short and long-range goals for Marshall Foundation that stimulates action while making budget considerations.
