About Rebecca Sonu
Dr. Rebecca Sonu is a board-certified anatomic and clinical pathologist who joined Marshall in 2016. She is passionate about providing Marshall’s patients with the most accurate diagnosis in a timely manner and enjoys working with the whole provider team to ensure that our patients receive the best care.
Dr. Sonu is a general surgical pathologist with specialty training in hematopathology (diseases of the blood, lymphoid and bone marrow such as lymphomas and leukemias) and transfusion medicine. While she does not see patients directly, she studies the tissues and cells of patients to determine their diagnosis.
Dr. Sonu completed her undergraduate studies in biology at the University of California at San Diego, before spending time after college studying human aging at Stanford where she was exposed to the world of pathology. Inspired to become a pathologist, Dr. Sonu completed medical school at Ross University, followed by a pathology residency and hematopathology fellowship at the University of California at Davis. She then completed a Transfusion Medicine fellowship at Stanford. In 2021, Dr. Sonu became the Laboratory Medical Director at Marshall.
Dr. Sonu feels fortunate to be living and working in the beautiful Sierra foothills. The surrounding environment provides her with a sense of peace, and she tries to spend as much time outside as possible. She also enjoys hot yoga and gardening.
