Marshall Announces Change in Outpatient Lab Policy: Hospital Patients Get Priority, Outpatients Directed to Three Alternate Sites for Routine Services

Dec. 9, 2016 — Beginning Jan. 1, 2017, Marshall Hospital in Placerville will refer walk-in patients for routine lab work to their outpatient locations.

Marshall announced the hospital location will continue to provide vital laboratory services to emergency room, intensive care unit, inpatients and outpatients with orders for urgently needed lab testing. Walk-in patients for routine lab work will be directed to seek services at any of Marshall’s outpatient labs in Placerville, Cameron Park and Georgetown.

Patient safety is the biggest reason for the change, according to Marshall Lab Director Joe Jacobs. “Elderly patients and those with mobility challenges have difficulty walking from the registration department to the laboratory’s location upstairs. This raised concerns for us,” he said.

“At our midtown Placerville and Cameron Park locations, they have registration and lab services in the same location. They are fully staffed and cater specifically to outpatients,” he said.

The outpatient locations/hours of operation are as follows:
