Fall Prevention Class: A Cure for a Common Hazard

Oct. 3, 2017 — A senior citizen is treated in a hospital emergency department for a fall every 11 seconds, according to the National Council on Aging (NCOA). Falls are the leading cause of fatal injury and the most common cause of non-fatal trauma hospital admissions among older adults, according the NCOA.

To help avoid this common hazard, Marshall’s annual Fall Prevention Day is Tuesday, Oct. 31 at the Ramona Gilmore Senior Center in El Dorado Hills, located at 990 Lassen Lane, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Admission is free. The event will include useful presentations from Marshall physicians and others. Event coordinator J.C. Laverty, RN, MSN, will join other health professionals in offering the following services:

  • Assistive device review
  • Balance and strength information
  • Blood pressure screening
  • Fitness screening
  • Footwear assessment
  • Hearing screening
  • Home Safety Review
  • Pharmacist review of medications (prescription and over the counter)
  • Vision screening
