MARSHALL SELECTS SIRI NELSON AS CEO

May 8, 2019 — Placerville, CA - Marshall has named Siri Nelson, MHA, FACHE, CPA, as its new Chief Executive Officer. As CEO, Nelson will lead the 125-bed hospital with 1,800 employees, the largest employer in El Dorado County.

The Marshall Hospital Board of Directors selected Nelson after a nationwide search that produced a field of 100 applicants to the top post at the Placerville hospital. Nelson is a native Californian whose most recent position was as CEO at Renown Health’s South Meadows Medical Center in Reno, Nevada. “Siri is a seasoned healthcare executive, one the board found to be a great fit, given her 28 years of experience in rural health,” says Gabrielle Marchini, chair of the Marshall Hospital Board of Directors.

Nelson began her health care administration career in accounting and finance, working at several community hospitals in the Sierra Foothills and the Central Valley. She served as Chief Financial Officer and Interim CEO at Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson, Chief Administrative Officer at Sutter Lakeside in Lakeport and since 2017, as Chief Executive Officer at South Meadows Medical Center in Reno.

Nelson will succeed James Whipple, who announced his retirement after leading Marshall for the past 16 years. Whipple will oversee Nelson’s 6-month transition into the role. “The Marshall Board of Directors recognizes James’s impressive 38- year tenure at Marshall, including 16 years as CEO. Marshall has thrived under his governance,” adds Marchini.

The nationwide search yielded 100 applicants, 11 of which were selected to participate in onsite interviews. The process, which began in January of this year, included several rounds of interview panels with representatives from all layers of the organization: health care providers, patient care staff, directors, senior leadership and members of the community on the Hospital Board.

“This significant decision was one made collaboratively and with the assurance of due diligence that will set the stage for Siri’s success, continuing the high level of care and service at Marshall.” said Marchini.

Marshall is an independent, nonprofit community healthcare provider located in the heart of the Sierra Foothills. Marshall includes Marshall Hospital, a fully accredited acute care facility with 125 beds in Placerville; several outpatient facilities in Cameron Park, El Dorado Hills and Georgetown. Marshall is affiliated with 200 licensed practitioners and 1,800 employees, providing quality healthcare services to more than 180,000 residents of El Dorado County.
