Outpatient Physical Rehabilitation Team

Meet the dedicated team of rehabilitation specialists at Marshall Medical Center. During your recovery, you will work with a team of medical professionals who will work collaboratively to create a customized treatment plan focused on helping you achieve your personal goals. We have three convenient locations: El Dorado Hills, Placerville and Cameron Park.

Bruce Akinaka, Physical Therapist, ATC, CI

Bruce Akinaka earned his BS degree in physical therapy from Cal State University at Northridge Health Sciences. He also obtained his athletic training and clinical instructor certifications. He has worked as a physical therapist in a variety of settings, including acute hospital care, home care, multiple outpatient clinical departments, skilled in-patient nursing facilities, and many sports injury treatment facilities.

His specialties include temporal mandibular joint pain, facial and cranial pain, spinal pain related to scoliosis, and chronic knee pain, as well as sports medicine, including high school athletes.

Gina Bucholz, Physical Therapist Assistant

Gina Buchholz received her Associate of Science degree from Visalia City College. While in school, she worked as a PT aide for two years in the skilled nursing home setting. She received her PTA training through Professional Skills Institute, in Santa Barbara California. Gina has taken courses in functional orthopedics, exercise for geriatrics, pain management, and rehab for total joint replacement patients. Physical Therapy Assistants work hand in hand with the evaluating Physical Therapist to carry out the treatment plan and progress patients to their goals.

Duane E. Cintron, Occupational Therapist

Duane received his Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from San Jose State University. He completed his internships at Stanford University Hospital and the Veterans Hospital in Palo Alto. Duane has worked in the specialty area of traumatic brain injury rehabilitation since 1994. He has since gone on to specialize in neurological rehabilitation, working in the acute, acute rehabilitation, post-acute/transitional rehabilitation, home health, and outpatient settings.

Duane’s specialty areas include upper extremity treatment, neuro re-education, NDT, vision and visual perceptual deficits, cognitive deficits, and pre-vocational skills training. He has lectured for the Occupational Therapy Association of California (OTAC) as well as for many of Sacramento’s hospitals on vision therapy and upper extremity neurological re-education. Duane is also a Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist (CDRS)—one of only 1,500 in the country, and the only practicing one in Sacramento.

Victoria Golmitz, MA, CCC, Speech Language Pathologist

Victoria graduated from San Jose State University with her Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology. She has worked in the intensive care unit, acute setting, acute rehabilitation, skilled nursing, and outpatient settings. Victoria is one of the few speech pathologists that have been trained in Vital Stim, the only neuromuscular electrical stimulation that is cleared by the FDA to treat dysphagia. She has many years of experience performing Modified Barium Swallow Studies, which Marshall Medical began utilizing in May of 2006. Victoria was also part of the team that developed the stroke pathway for the hospital.

Teresa Montgomery, PT, DPT, Physical Therapist

Teresa received her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Biology from UC Davis and her Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine. Teresa has practiced physical therapy in a variety of settings including the school system, outpatient clinic, and skilled nursing facility. She specializes in treating children and adults with neurologic conditions.

Teresa utilizes manual therapy, neuromuscular re-education, and vestibular integration techniques. She is passionate about helping patients maintain their independence and return to their prior level of function.

A.J. Smith, Physical Therapist Assistant

A.J. received his AS degree from Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts in San Mateo. Since receiving his license, A.J. has worked in a Skilled Nursing Facility and an outpatient clinic in Sacramento.

AJ is currently working at both the outpatient clinic and in the hospital, where he enjoys working with patients of all ages.

Stephanie Perez, PT, DPT, Physical Therapist

Stephanie received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Spanish from the College of Saint Benedict and her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Nova Southeastern University. Stephanie has completed all of the Manual Therapy Courses through the University of Saint Augustine, and has continued her education in post-surgical, vestibular/balance disorders, and IAMST training. Her areas of specialization include the spine and orthopedic rehabilitation.

In 2016, Stephanie obtained her certification to be a clinical instructor. She has been a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) since 2007. Stephanie has developed Marshall's Pelvic Health Program, a new service line to treat pelvic pain and urinary and rectal incontinence. She treats bowel and bladder dysfunction and pelvic pain for patients of all ages and genders. In addition, she has continued her medical training with the goal of becoming a women’s health specialist.

John Wu, Physical Therapist

John Wu received his BS degree in physical therapy from Cumberland College of Health Sciences University of Sydney, Australia. Prior to his employment at Marshall, John worked in private clinics and hospital outpatient departments in Texas and Australia. He specializes in treating spinal disorders using a combination of manual therapy techniques and exercise programs. In Australia, he was trained in Maitland joint mobilization and Butler neural mobilization. More recently he has begun treating vestibular disorders, including benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. John is located at our El Dorado Hills location.
