About Benjamin Ying Ming Tan

Benjamin Tan, MD is a board-certified general surgeon who specializes in Minimally Invasive, Advanced GI, Robotic and Bariatric Surgery. His philosophy is to care for each patient as if they were his own friend or loved one.  

Dr. Tan chose medicine as a profession because he recognizes that it is an honor and a privilege when his patients entrust their health, and their lives, to him. He enjoys being able to affect change and healing through his hands and his work. His interests lie in longevity and healthy living, and he believes in the healing power of Cold Plunging, sunlight, exercise, personal development, and maintaining a positive outlook and mindset, which in turn carry over into an overall healthy lifestyle.  

Dr. Tan earned his medical degree from California’s Loma Linda University School of Medicine and completed his residency at San Joaquin General Hospital and fellowship at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic Florida. A member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, Dr. Tan has extensive research experience, has presented at numerous national forums, and has even contributed to a textbook on laparoscopic surgical techniques. Outside of his practice, Dr. Tan has volunteered to perform surgeries aboard the Africa Mercy Ship in Dakar, Senegal and at Malamulo Hospital in Makwasa, Malawi.  

Fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and basic Spanish, Dr. Tan enjoys photography, rock climbing, snowboarding, pickleball and travel. He maintains a strong interest in personal development. In addition to his clinical education, he received an undergraduate degree in music from Pacific Union College, where he graduated suma cum laude. He holds several licenses from Trinity College of London and the Royal School of Music for skill in both piano and violin.
