Lue Lao, MD,MPH

​Lue Lao, MD joined Marshall Cardiology in early 2026. His area of focus is general cardiology, which allows him to provide treatment and care for a wide spectrum of cardiac conditions, including congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy, and pulmonary hypertension. After witnessing the lifesaving care his sister received for a long-undiagnosed childhood heart condition, Dr. Lao was inspired to pursue cardiology and hopes to make the same difference in the lives of his own patients. He believes in providing holistic, personalized care, viewing every patient as a unique individual.​

Dr. Lao believes that prevention is the best treatment, and that prevention often begins at the public health level. He grew up in a small town where access to quality specialty healthcare was limited, negatively impacting the health of the community. Inspired by this, he became a doctor and obtained a master’s in public health. While training as a cardiologist, he served both locally and internationally as a public health volunteer, cementing his passion for addressing health disparities. At Marshall, Dr. Lao hopes to address these same factors, providing cardiac care to Placerville and the surrounding communities along the Highway 50 corridor.​

Dr. Lao received his undergraduate and master’s in public health degrees at the University of California Davis and his medical education at the University of California San Diego before going on to complete his residency at UC Davis. He furthered his specialized training with a fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco, developing advanced expertise in cardiovascular medicine.​

Dr. Lao and his wife have one son and plan to grow their family. They are avid travelers who have visited Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, and Singapore. They plan to visit all of Asia, then Europe, as well as every state in the United States. They are avid foodies who also enjoy hiking and gardening, with more than forty fruit trees in their back yard.​

Dr. Lao is fluent in both English and Hmong.​
