About Stephen Cyphers

Stephen Cyphers, MD, has practiced in El Dorado County since 1987. Originally from Southern California, he completed his medical degree at Loma Linda University School of Medicine in 1982. After a general surgery internship, he completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center in 1987, the year he opened what is now called Marshall Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.

Dr. Cyphers’ repertoire — foot and ankle surgery, total joint replacement, arthroscopic surgery, among others – includes a history of innovation. He introduced anterior approach hip replacement surgery to the community seven years ago; it is now the preferred method for patients who elect this procedure. He is particularly interested in total knee replacement. Dr. Cyphers is the only surgeon in this region who performs total ankle replacement.

Professional affiliations include the American Medical Association and the California Medical Association. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.

Dr. Cyphers takes pride in forging relationships with those who receive his care. He believes in involving patients in decisions regarding their treatment. Outside of practice, family stands as the top priority. He shares an avid interest in cycling, skiing, water skiing and travel with his wife and children.
