Are you curious to know if you may have had COVID-19? The SARS-CoV-2 antibody blood test is now available to the public only with a doctor’s order. The tests, provided by Abbott Labs, is recognized as one of the topmost accurate antibody tests available. The test is covered by most insurance.

The test will not reveal an active COVID-19 infection. Having the IgG antibody means that you have had a past immune response to the infection. In order to avoid a false negative, wait at least four weeks after the onset of symptoms before getting blood drawn in order to give your immune system time to produce the antibodies.

Though there is not enough evidence that people who have recovered from COVID-19 are protected from infection, the collective results of the antibody test will give data on the percentage of a population that has been exposed. Don’t assume that a positive antibody test means you’re immune or can’t spread the infection to someone else.

To participate in the test, first, obtain a lab order from your doctor. You may visit the Marshall Medical Laboratory locations at 681 Main Street, Placerville or 3581 Palmer Drive, Cameron Park, to obtain the SARS-CoV-2 antibody blood test on a walk-in basis. Your insurance carrier will be billed for the service.
