da Vinci Robotic Assisted Surgery

Marshall is pleased to offer the most advanced minimally invasive surgery using the da Vinci robotic system, a robot-assisted method of surgery that reduces blood loss, recovery time and pain.

Three components make the da Vinci surgical system minimally invasive:

  • The surgical console that provides surgeons with a three dimensional 3-D view of the patient’s anatomy.
  • The surgical instruments attached to these robotic arms move like human hands and allow for greater range of motion.
  • The vision cart enables the different components of the system to communicate and work seamlessly together.

How it Works

The da Vinci surgical system requires intense and lengthy training for surgeons and involves hours of practice using a simulator. In da Vinci surgery, the surgeon sits at a console that controls the robot, which is positioned above the patient. There is minimal manual work as the surgeon prepares for the operation by making small incisions for the da Vinci surgical system. Real time, magnified 3D views of the surgical area allow the surgeon to see the surgical field. The robot itself is equipped with instruments that can rotate better than a human hand and wrist allowing for precise procedures.

Current Robot-Assisted Surgeries at Marshall

Marshall is currently using the da Vinci for many benign gynecological conditions as well as urological and general surgery needs, including a single-site gall bladder removal procedure.

The da Vinci robotic surgery team at Marshall has been specially trained in providing a safe, positive experience for patients.
