What to Know for Your Stay
Your Birth Experience
Our goal is to give you the birth experience that you’ve envisioned. We encourage you to contact Birth Center staff at any point during your pregnancy to discuss your birthing preferences and we will be happy to assist you in planning for your big day. And, if things don't go quite as planned, we have that covered too.
Baby Friendly Hospital
Marshall observes the World Health Organization's Baby Friendly practices, which emphasize, among other things, mom-baby skin-to-skin contact immediately following a healthy birth, breastfeeding support and a family oriented experience. In all of our services, your personal preferences are our priority.
Birth Center Security Measures
We provide a safe and secure environment for you to deliver your baby. We maintain limited access through controlled entry and departure from our unit, for your safety and that of your baby.
What Is An OBGYN?
An obstetrician-gynecologist, or OBGYN, is a board-certified physician specializing in women’s health, particularly in pregnancy, childbirth, and the reproductive system. They oversee and support the care of high-risk patients. At Marshall Medical, your OBGYN works closely with you throughout your pregnancy to monitor your health and your baby's health. They provide comprehensive care, including prenatal checkups, guidance on labor and delivery options, and postpartum support. The OBGYN collaborates with our CNMs and birth center staff to ensure your safety and that of your baby. They collaborate with other birth center professionals to provide an individualized approach to your pregnancy and delivery.
What Is a CNM?
At Marshall, our certified nurse midwives (CNMs) are highly trained independent care providers specializing in women's prenatal, birth, and postpartum care. Our CNMs provide individualized, patient-centered care, emphasizing natural, low-intervention births whenever possible. They work collaboratively with our OBGYN providers to ensure a safe and supportive environment for childbirth. CNMs offer guidance on health education, breastfeeding, and family planning, and they provide compassionate support throughout the entire birthing process. We are proud to exceed the state average of midwifery attended deliveries of 18%, with 78.6% of our deliveries being attended by our CNMs in 2024.
What Are My Pain Management Options?
At Marshall Medical we offer various pain management options, including non-pharmacological pain management techniques such as hydrotherapy (jet tubs), aromatherapy, guided imagery, intentional movement, IV pain medication, including opioids, and spinal anesthesia (epidurals) provided by our specialized Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists.
About Visitors
Temporary Visitor Restrictions: Keeping Marshall patients connected with their loved ones is important to their well-being and enhances the ability of the care team to ensure both the patient’s and the family member’s concerns are being appropriately addressed. With this in mind, two designated visitors will be allowed for new/laboring moms and no visitors will be allowed for COVID positive patients. All visitors will be screened for symptoms
For more information or to schedule an appointment, call Marshall at 530-626-2638.
