MARSHALL MEDICAL CENTER EARNS BABY FRIENDLY RE-DESIGNATION

Marshall has been bestowed with a prestigious international recognition as a Baby-Friendly Designated birth facility after a rigorous review process conducted by Baby-Friendly USA.

Baby-Friendly USA, Inc. is the U.S. authority for the implementation of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative, a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund . The initiative encourages and recognizes hospitals and birthing centers that offer an optimal level of care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies.

Mary Ann Gulutz, director of Marshall’s Birth Center, said, “The recognition as Baby-Friendly acknowledges Marshall as a world-class destination for women to give birth. Our experienced and dedicated staff and physicians continue to work tirelessly to ensure our hospital provides the ideal environment and support for the best in infant feeding.”

The redesignation fee was generously donated by the Marshall Foundation for Community Health.

Based on the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, this prestigious international award recognizes birth facilities that offer breastfeeding mothers the information, confidence and skills needed to successfully initiate and continue breastfeeding their babies. Marshall has two lactation consultants and one lactation counselor on staff to help new moms in their efforts to breastfeed, and also provide prenatal education and preparation for expecting couples.
