Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take for my physician to receive my diagnostic imaging results? It usually takes 24 to 48 hours. If you have not heard from the ordering physician within two to three business days, please call his/her office. Diagnostic Imaging staff cannot give you the results over the phone.

Can I bring my child with me to my appointment? If you have children under 12 years old, please make other arrangements for childcare, as there are no childcare facilities on site. Children under 12 may not be left unattended in the waiting areas. Due to the nature of the types of imaging exams performed and for safety purposes, children are not allowed in the examination rooms.

Why am I having this procedure done? Please ask the physician who ordered your test why you are having this procedure done.

Does my diagnostic imaging test need a pre-authorization from my insurance company? Check with your insurance company and/or the physician who ordered your imaging test or one of his/her staff. It is the responsibility of the physician who orders the diagnostic imaging test to obtain pre-authorization if necessary.

Can I check out my diagnostic images or have them mailed? Yes. Call Marshall’s Diagnostic Imaging department at 530-626-2613 at least 24 hours before you need to pick-up your images. Have available the name, address and phone number of the office or facility where the images are going. Marshall's diagnostic imaging facilities are completely digital. This means that the images from your diagnostic imaging test are stored electronically and can either be copied to a CD or printed on film. We will, by default, produce copies of your images on CD as most physicians prefer to receive the images in this format.

Do I need a physician to order the diagnostic imaging exam? Yes. We do not accept self-referrals for any exams, including mammograms. You will receive a written order from your physician for the imaging procedure. You can make your own appointment.

Am I going to have to wait?
Most of the time, patients do not need to wait long, but this depends on how many appointments are scheduled that day.

If your appointment is at one of Marshall's outpatient imaging centers (in Cameron Park and Placerville), delays are rare as the majority of procedures performed are scheduled. Exams scheduled at the Marshall Hospital facility are prone to more delays due to unexpected inpatient and emergency needs. We will do everything possible to stay on schedule, but your patience is greatly appreciated.

Is there a radiologist on site? Yes, all of our facilities have a radiologist available to read test images.

Please call us to schedule your procedure at 530-626-2861. Bring your physician's written orders to your appointment.
