Health Information Exchange
A health information exchange (HIE) allows your health care providers to share your most recent medical information with participating doctors’ offices, hospitals, labs, radiology centers and other providers participating in your care, through secure, electronic means. The purpose is to give each of your participating caregivers access to the most up-to-date information available. Once you have established care at Marshall, your external primary care physician or any other external specialty doctor can qualify to receive access to your medical records through one of the HIE methods below.
EPIC PhysicianConnect
If your external provider does not use the EPIC electronic medical record system, they can view and pull your Marshall medical records electronically through the EPIC PhysicianConnect system. They can enroll online at UC Davis Health Referring Physicians. UC Davis hosts Marshall's EPIC electronic medical record system and will provide access.
EPIC CareEverywhere
If your external physician is a member of a health system that already uses the EPIC electronic medical record system, they can view and pull your Marshall medical records electronically through the EPIC CareEverywhere module. No enrollment is required for this feature. Your external provider can use their EPIC system to retrieve the medical records.
Note: Patients are automatically set to opt in to HIE, meaning information will be shared with participating physicians and health care providers unless you provide instructions to opt out. If you wish to opt out of participating in the HIE, please complete the Marshall Health Information Exchange Patient Opt-out Form and submit the form to Marshall's Health Information Management Department HIM@marshallmedical.org. By opting out of HIE, you are agreeing to be removed from all HIE electronic portals.
If you or your external physician have questions about medical records, please contact Marshall's Health Information Management Department at 530-626-2620 (Telephone hours are Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding holidays).
