Meet Our Team
Richard Detwiler, MD, is an experienced general surgeon providing a comprehensive range of
surgical care for both planned and emergent surgery needs, including endoscopic
and laparoscopic procedures, surgical treatment of malignancies, sclerotherapy,
vascular surgeries and specialty procedures of Crohn’s disease,
ulcerative colitis, and other conditions. He has been affiliated with
Marshall Medical Center since moving to the area in 1989.
Kathleen Hertzer, MD, PhD, is a board certified general surgeon at Marshall General Surgery in Placerville.
She received her medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine.
Her clinical interests are broad and include laparoscopic and robotic
techniques, acute care and trauma surgery, colorectal, breast, foregut,
hernia and other aspects of general surgery. Dr. Hertzer likes to fix
problems for patients that make a big difference to their health and comfort.
Ryan Lussenden, MD, is an experienced general surgeon who is board certified in general surgery
and has completed a bariatric surgery fellowship. He joined Marshall Medical
Center in 2018, having previously worked in Minnesota and Florida. Dr.
Lussenden has several clinical interests including both laparoscopic and
robotic techniques. He particularly enjoys hernia, gallbladder, foregut,
breast, colorectal surgery, among other aspects of general surgery.
Craig Thayer, MD, is an experienced general surgeon, having provided routine and life-saving
surgical procedures for the community for over 20 years. Dr. Thayer provides
a wide range of surgical care for both planned and emergent surgery needs,
including traumatic injury situations, surgical treatment of malignancies,
endoscopic and laparoscopic procedures, ulcerative colitis and other conditions.
He is the only surgeon in the county performing vascular and thoracic surgery.
